Godric Gryffindor can seem stuffy and overbearing to most. However, he is a passionate man who throws himself into the work of organizing and running the newest magical school in Europe. When he is not focused on organizing and surveying the castle boundaries, Godric enjoys scholarly pursuits, and sword fighting with his squire. He has what can best be described as a demented sense of humor. He enjoys lurking behind tapestries throughout the school, and leaping out, startling students and staff alike with his odd noises and disturbing faces.
He is also known for his temper. Red is not only the colour of his hair, and of his House crest. His temper is known to flair with no real warning at all. When he is incensed, there is not much that can calm him down. A sure-fire way, however, is to give him several pumpkins to hack to bits with his sword.

Godric Gryffindor was born on All Hallow’s Eve, 981, in a small village in the West Country known as Hertford. His parents – both magical, one a squib, the other a member of the council to the King of England – Æthelred II. Godric was tutored by his parents in the finer points of magic. When he was seven, Godric was sent to serve as a Paige to a neighboring Lord’s knights. He became a knight at 16. Also when he was 16, his parents died in an epidemic of smallpox. Godric assumed his father’s position as an advisor to the king, and became known as one of the foremost experts on magical History in Europe. His specialty are the old legends of Merlin and Arthur.
Godric had for years fantasized about forming a school to teach magical children. He purchased several thousand acres of land in Scotland upon which to construct his school, only to realize that he couldn’t grapple the task on his own. He turned to his longtime friend and co-hort, Helga Hufflepuff. In time, the two were joined by Salazar Slytherin and Rowena Ravenclaw.
Construction began on Hogwarts school on April 9, 1002. The first stones were laid – in what is now the Astronomy Tower. Godric – somehow – wound up as the first Headmaster when Hogwarts opened its doors to its first class in 1010. Upon his declaration to the post, Ragnook the First, King of the Gringots’ Goblins, sent him a masterfully crafted sword, ruby embossed handle, and finely tempered blade. For years, Gryffindor has harbored a secret attraction to Rowena Ravenclaw, finally declaring it to her shortly before the time travel incident.
